Choice

We have been gifted CHOICE. What are we going to do with the situations in front of us? How are we going to be intentional to grow amidst the things we endure during this life? How do we stop the chaos that ensues in our brains and homes?

In our parenting - no matter how badly our kids behave, we get to choose self control. In our work - no matter who our boss is, we get to choose our attitude. In our health - no matter who our coach is, we get to choose our level of success. In our marriage - no matter what our partner does or doesn’t do around the house, we get to choose how we talk to them and about them.

Who do we want to be and how do we want to show up in the world around us? Perhaps start writing down words that resonate with you. When you walk into a room, how do you want people to describe you? When you are in conflict, how do you want to respond? What words will be written on your epitaph when your life on earth is over of who you were and how you impacted others?

How do you get from where you are today to where you want to be? The body will never go where the brain has not been trained……. TRAIN YOUR BRAIN. Now is the time to start to re-write the story you have believed about yourself and how you feel compelled to respond to the world around you.

Start daily affirmations. Make list of adjectives that describe your future self and post it somewhere you’ll see every dang day. Have pictures of people you want to emulate visible, and scriptures of truth memorized. Make a vision board and spend time visualizing. Sounds a little hokey, hey? There is loads of science to prove all of this. The more you see it, the more you will say it. The more you say it, the more you will believe it. The more you believe it, the more you will behave like it.

Oh. And PS. We don’t do all this just to be better versions of ourselves. Ultimately, we want to look like Jesus and emulate HIM. To impact the world around us and cause HIS kingdom to expand here on earth. To love others well and to bring glory to God. We are able to do this because all things were made FOR Him and IN Him and BY Him. We are capable because we have His power inside us. We are more than conquerors over our exasperation, our blaming tendencies and our many frustrations. So thankful we can change the story line in our heads… one choice at a time.
